Abstract

The controversy that arose in the late 1980s regarding the alleged discovery of nuclear fusion at room temperature never halted experimental activities in this field. Back in the laboratory, they have continued to produce a series of extremely encouraging results, all evidencing aspects of a highly complex phenomenology involving low-energy nuclear processes that occur, under certain conditions, in condensed matter. Moreover, a great deal of theoretical work has been done on these aspects. This is the first of a series of articles presenting research activities in this field and the results already obtained at the ENEA laboratories.
